Read Bill’s Story With The Butler…
Since our arrival at the Henry on 15 October 2021, we have felt welcome and supported by The Butler Care Manager (Sandra Villamil) and Malsha, working closely in conjunction with The Henry staff.
Before our arrival, I had a 4-month hospitalisation in Sydney caused by acute pancreatitis. This included a 3-week rehabilitation program to start my physical recovery. I had lost about 15kg in body weight and suffered a significant reduction in strength and muscle tone from before the attack in July. I was only 1 week out of the hospital before our arrival and was still relatively weak and in need of physical support.
My wife, Kate, has reduced mobility caused by osteoporosis resulting from anti-rejection drugs following a kidney transplant in 2007. During my illness, I was unable to provide care for Kate, so our daughter came to Sydney to care for her mother and also provide support for me while in hospital. This period included preparing our home in Sydney for sale, arranging the inspections and virtual auction and making arrangements with The Henry for our new home.
Following arrival and a 2-week quarantine period at our new home in The Henry, Sandra met with us and conducted a survey into our need for services. The immediate needs were:
· Physiotherapy for both Kate and me to continue to improve strength and mobility.
· Provision of nursing services for Bill to administer a weekly Arenis injection
· House cleaning support
· Podiatry for Kate
· Advice and arranging interviews for Government support under the NDIS
These services were all arranged and at the time of writing, the following comments are provided;
1. Physiotherapy. Following an information session and an initial assessment, an 8 week program of 1 hour weekly was arranged with Adam for both Kate and I. Adam has been very attentive to our needs and has continued to adapt the program in response to our improving physical capability
2. Nursing Services. On-site weekly visits by the nurse, Emelia were conducted for 6 weeks until the need for the injection was no longer required. Emelia was also asked to see Kate and check a dressing and bruising, following a minor incident in the house. This was completed and no further visits were required.
3. House cleaning support. A weekly 2 hour cleaning routine was Implemented and we are completely satisfied with the results. The cleaner (Smriti) is polite, punctual and thorough in her work and always asks whether there are any special requests in addition to the routine tasks. She is trustworthy and unobtrusive as she works.
4. Podiatry for Kate. Bonnie provides effective podiatry in a very pleasant manner.Kate is very satisfied with this a service.
5. Advice and arranging interviews for Government support under the My Aged Care. Sandra arranged the interview with the My Aged Care assessor who conducted the assessment. Kathy was thorough and punctual in her meeting arrangement and Kate was satisfied with the result of the assessment,
In addition to the provision of formal services, both Sandra and Malsha have been available at The Clubhouse at The Henry to discuss our needs and provide advice. They both support the recreational activities at the Clubhouse. Their friendly manner makes it a very pleasant experience and meeting with them is something we both look forward to.
In summary, we have received outstanding service from the Vitality Care team and are extremely grateful
Sincerely,
Bill
